Triumph 657R Daytona with Öhlins launched

The new 2011 Triumph Daytona 675R with Öhlins suspension launched.

The launch of the 2011 Triumph Daytona 675R to the world’s media at the Portimao Circuit in Portugal highlighted the increased sporting potential of Triumph’s new premium version of its class-leading machine thanks to the addition of Öhlins suspension.

The 675R is the first Triumph to be equipped with Öhlins suspension as original equipment, a move that gained praise from members of the world’s motorcycling press who exclusively rode the bike during the two-day launch. Benefiting from Öhlins’ 43mm NIX30 forks and a TTX36 shock absorber, riders of the 675R soon discovered that the addition of race proven suspension from Öhlins had sharpened an already accomplished track and road motorcycle even further.
- The marriage of Öhlins to any bike always makes a big difference, that’s why club, track and professional riders all use Öhlins. The fact Triumph has taken Öhlins and placed it on the already excellent Daytona 675 now means everyone can play at the racing game on road or track,  said Trevor Franklin, Motorcycle News’ Chief Road Tester.

- The introduction of Öhlins kit on the Daytona 675R hasn’t just confirmed the Triumph as the best Supersport bike money can buy – it’s changed the game entirely, said Benjamin Kubas-Cronin, Fast Bikes Magazine’s Features Editor.

As well as being on hand to help riders tailor the suspension to their individual needs, the highly experienced Öhlins staff were able to explain in detail the technical differences between the Öhlins products and the units on the stock Daytona 675 as well as offer riders the chance to datalog their laps on a specially equipped 675R. The Video VBOX datalogging equipment supplied by Racelogic offered journalists an opportunity to record their laps and compare times against Triumph’s test and development rider Felipe Lopez – Felipe’s lap can be seen on Ohlins Racing UK’s Facebook page.

Chris Witter, Business Development Manager, Öhlins Racing UK commented:
- To be involved with the launch of a brand new motorcycle was a fantastic privilege. The feedback we received from the riders was very positive and I hope that in the near future Öhlins and Triumph can work together in this way again.
