Checkpoint Öhlins

Set up your car

After installing an Öhlins shock absorber
Note!
The Öhlins suspension has different damping characteristics than the stock suspension, it is therefore very important that you change to Öhlins suspension, both in the front and the rear of the vehicle.

1. Coil-over shock absorber; Check the ride height according to appropriate specifications. If the measured ride height is not in the recommended range, reset the spring preload/spring position. See section “Set Spring Preload”. If you have any questions regarding spring preload, please contact an Öhlins dealer for advice. Check, and if necessary, adjust, the wheel alignment.

2. Non-coil-over shock absorber; the ride height should not have been affected by changing to an Öhlins suspension.

Go out for a test drive
Warning!
Before driving, always ensure that the basic settings made by Öhlins are intact. Take notes, adjust in small steps and make only one adjustment at a time.

A few general tips:
* Take a test drive and note how the vehicle behaves in the various situations (curves, bumps, series of bumps etc.)
* Adjust only one setting at a time. Go out for a new test drive.
* Take notes so that you can easily go back to an earlier setting if necessary.

Adjustments
Note!
Make sure that the springs are in good condition and have a proper preload before attempting to make any other adjustments. The spring preload is fundamental for the performance of the suspension. If the spring preload is incorrectly set, any other adjustments may not help to get the intended performance from the suspension.

Problem Try This
The vehicle feels unstable, bouncy and non-responsive Increase Damping
The vehicle feels hard and bumpy Reduce damping
The vehicle feels soft, has low riding position and a tendency to bottom easily in long dips Increase damping
The vehicle feels harsh and has low grip Reduce damping

Note!
Adjust two [2] steps/clicks at a time. Take a test drive again, adjust one [1] step/click back if the adjustment was too drastic. By trial and error you will learn how the adjustments affect the vehicle. Take notes when you adjust.
