Advantages with 2WD & Torque Distribution
|
The Öhlins front wheel transmission has been elaborately tested during the years. In devastating desert sun as well as in harsh Swedish winter climate the transmission has proven its function. We have tested the system both on-road and off-road. The endurance has been ascertained on long gruelling endurance tests as well as in desert races.
Depending on throttle position and ground condition the transmission gradually builds up the front wheel pulling force. The graph below shows how the drive force distribution between front and rear wheel varies with speed when we have max drive force on the front wheel.

The riding advantages can be summarized as:
Off-Road, Gravel Roads • Better traction especially in sand and snow. • Better high speed stability. • Better possibility to change direction in corners. • Corner exit: better stability, earlier throttle application. • Better stability going up hill. • Better stability during wheelies and while airborne in a jump. • The bigger and heavier the bike and the more inexperienced the rider, the more you benefit from 2WD.
|
On Road, Wet & Dry • Better traction especially in the wet. • Better predictability going into corners. • Keeps the line better during acceleration out from corners, earlier acceleration possible. • Better high speed stability especially in the wet. • Better control in wheelies especially during landing.
