Öhlins shocks solve problems

When we begin work on developing shocks for snowmobiles at Öhlins, an important link is the tests carried out by our professional test riders, who are current or former competition riders. As most of our customers use their snowmobiles primarily for cross-country trail riding, our tests are mainly focused on this activity.

However, our shocks can be adapted and modified for racing.

Of the snowmobile’s four shocks, it is often the rear shocks that makes the greatest difference. The dynamics in an Öhlins shock means that the rider feels an immediate difference compared with the original shock. Our shocks often provide a slightly higher ride, which in turn provides better steering and traction. On some of our rear shocks, we also have a patented rebound adjustment.

Overall, Öhlins snowmobile shocks have more options for adjustments than original shocks. Our objective is for our shocks to suite as many different riders as possible. After all, a snowmobile can be used for so much: normal cross-country trail riding, snowcross with jumps, long-distance runs on cross-country trails or just pleasant touring on a beautiful winter day. The adjustment options that our shocks have cover most of the areas of use.

Öhlins shocks are primarily developed for sports models, however, specially modified shocks for all types of snowmobiles are available through our distributors.

Those who wish to have the best performance should fit their snowmobiles all around with Öhlins shocks. It is then important to think about attaining the correct ration in terms of the spring force, in other words the spring pre-load and spring rate. We invest a great deal of time and effort in finding the right balance; otherwise, there is a risk that the snowmobile becomes difficult to steer under low ski pressure, or surface sensitivity under high ski pressure. Trying to find this balance on one’s own is difficult, but if you buy Öhlins shocks, the problem is already solved!

• All Öhlins shock absorbers for snowmobiles have a unique patented ice scraper on the piston rod, which efficiently prevents ice destroying the packing by avoiding moisture to penetrate the shock absorber. When moisture penetrates the shock absorber it can freeze and in worst case cease to function.
