Öhlins Racing has unveiled the next generation in motocross suspension.
Factory derived forks that any MX racer can buy. Previously only available to factory supported Öhlins riders, the new MX forks contain all of the technical knowledge and premium components that are usually found in factory forks, but at a fraction of the cost.
With gold outer tubes, the new MX forks not only stand out from the crowd, they offer championship winning performance. Designed to offer a degree of flex to improve the ride quality, the outers are machined from aluminium then anodised gold for that Öhlins factory finish.
The 48mm inner tubes have a Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating with low friction seals and bushes to reduce friction and offer improved performance and damping precision as well as a tough outer surface. Inside the forks is Öhlins already class-leading TTX Cartridge kit. ¨
Updated for 2011, this kit contains the very latest in Öhlins’ Twin Tube technology and delivers unrivalled damping performance over any terrain. Developed in conjunction with Öhlins’ factory supported teams in 2010, the technology in these forks is developed by the world’s best off-road riders including 2010 MX2 British Motocross Champion Zach Osborne. Magnus Eriksson, Öhlins Product Manager Motorcycle Products commented.
– In all honestly our new MX forks are virtually the same as the factory items we sold to specific teams last year – although half the price! We took all the experience from those teams and built our forks using the very latest Öhlins technology, it is a factory fork that has been put into production. Even our full factory teams will be running them in 2011.
Öhlins produce a large range of suspension items for MX and Enduro machines from 50cc to Open class racing. The products include steering dampers, full forks, shocks, springs, oils and cartridge kits.
The new TTX22 cartridge kit has been designed in conjunction with Öhlins Racing and is a universal fit, allowing it to be used in most modern motocross or enduro bikes. It requires no modification to the forks themselves and simply removing the standard inserts and swapping for the TTX22 units converts your bike’s forks to running Öhlins’ latest TTX technology.
The 22mm gas pressurised cartridge kit gives immediate and unrivalled damping performance with external compression and rebound adjustors providing precise fine-tuning for a perfect set-up. As well as being considerably lighter than OE equipment, the TTX22 kit comes with improved hydraulic stops to reduce the potential of bottoming out, new top-out rubbers for a smoother top-out feeling and a new one-way rebound valve which gives better front end feel.
With motocross providing the ultimate test for a bike’s suspension, Öhlins R&D department has been kept busy developing and improving on its class-leading shock absorbers and 2011 sees the TTX44 receive several performance updates.
Designed for, and previously only supplied to, championship riders, the TTX44 shock absorber is now available to the serious private rider giving them access to Öhlins’ brand new Chassis Stability Control (CSC) technology. Designed to give the rider the ability to tune their chassis the CSC valve alters the shock absorber’s low speed movement, providing a ride that when combined with new valves gives the TTX44 shock a more consistent and improved dynamic behaviour.
Öhlins has always believed that age should be no barrier to sporting performance and 2011 sees the introduction of a brand new 85cc Junior cartridge kit. It may be small in size, but this new kit contains all of the technology that comes in Öhlins’ larger fork kits and features pressurised damping and external compression and rebound adjustors. Designed to be both easy to fit and maintain, the Junior kit simply requires the removal of the original fork inserts and swapping with the Öhlins replacements to give talented youngsters that vital extra edge as they progress up the leader board.
