Öhlins have announced a brand new Suspension Control Unit, or SCU, upgrade for the Ducati Multistrada S to give the machine semi-active suspension.
Available for models equipped with OEM EC Suspension, the already highly acclaimed Adventure bike will gain even more comfort, grip and improved agility, as well as an extended adjustment range.
Able to be installed very quickly, the SCU can be simply fitted by removing the ECU under the seat and installing the ‘plug and play’ new unit. Loaded with smart algorithms, the SCU changes the suspension from a passive system to a semi-active system, giving the rider continuous benefits.
Derived straight from the Öhlins R&D team in World Superbikes, the SCU changes the suspension to the best possible set up depending on riding style, speed, acceleration and other various parameters. When a change of damping levels is justified, the Öhlins SCU will change the rebound and/or the compression damping.
Utilising the Ducati dashboard, the rider can still select the different riding mode (Sport, Touring, Urban or Enduro) and the Suspension Control Unit will monitor what is happening with the bike to continuously change to the best solution along the ride, resulting in a seamless riding experience. The new control unit also allows for almost double the adjustment range compared to the standard system.
Available for Ducati Multistrada 1200 S models from 2010-2012, the new SCU will be available from May with an expected cost of 300 EUR.
“We’re very happy to bring out this upgrade now for Ducati owners already enjoying the bike with Öhlins OEM EC suspension,” Öhlins Product Manager MC Peter Andersson says. “It gives us an opportunity to improve and upgrade an already great bike and give the owner a true semi-active suspension system for very little money. We have spent a long time testing this product to find the best software and algorithms and we have arrived at what we believe is a very impressive suspension upgrade for the Ducati Multistrada S.”
